22215	2001-10-22 00:43:00	I have recently installed linux and so you can expect to see me on here a bit in the future: Could someone please tell me step by step how to install Opera from the October PC World disk.(if i get that i will be able to install other packets)starting from putting the disk in: I can not figure out su and root or command line.I have a manual coming but want to get on with it. Also I have a primary drive C which has Windows installed and has 2.5G of free space. My linux drive is (what used to be my D)and is only 1g. How do I now use space on prim for linux? I have earlier gone down the path of destroying all on my primary drive.	Guest (0)

22217	2001-10-22 05:48:00	First of all, create a mount point: cd /mnt mkdir hd1 Then, when in Linux, you can mount the first partition of your primary drive using: mount -tauto /dev/hda1 /mnt/hd1 Some GUI tools will do this easily for you. Note that if the drive in question is vfat formatted (which, IIRC, is what Windows uses), it will run inefficiently. For maximum performance, you need to try to stick to using ext2 (i.e. native Linux) formatted drives.	Guest (0)
22218	2001-10-22 06:57:00	opera: start your terminal, type su and press <Enter> in the next prompt enter your root password put CD in in the shell prompt type cd /mnt/cdrom/'whatever directory opera rpm is' and press <Enter> If it doesn't work, type mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom and enter again. Then repeat the previous step. Once in the correct directory, type rpm -ivh opera-whatever.rpm note: if mount command is not working, replace /dev/cdrom with /dev/hdb if CD drive is primary slave, or hdc for sec. master or hdd for sec slave. You can then start opera using the following command /usr/bin/opera	Guest (0)
22219	2001-10-22 08:50:00	If you want to avoid the commandline (and assuming your using a recent version of linux). I'll assume your using KDE (but gnome is similar. Log in as root from the login screen (choose the KDE session). On the KDE desktop double click on the cdrom icon. I don't have the CD, but browse arround (or search) for a file called opera.????????.i386.rpm. Then double click on the file, and choose install. If double clicking doesn't work, then start 'Package Manager' from the K menu, choose file, open and browse to file on the CD. Thats how I installed a downloaded RPM on Mandrake 8.0	Guest (0)
