| 22196 | 2001-10-21 21:48:00 | hi i have 2 computers which 1 uses win98 and the other win95, and i want to be able to go online at the same time, but dial up at different time. i rang the xtra guys 'n they told me that once 1 computer is connected under the username 'xxx' then as soon as another computer connects using the same username 'xxx' the they start charing $2.50 per hour on top of the plan i'm on. so i'm wondering if there's another FREE isp i could sign up to and just use that isps username when i dial up using my second computer (both using the same ONE phoneline)? so my q is is this possible and if yes, what is some good but free isps available in Auckland (north shore to be specific)? are xfree still going? or i4free? or even freenet with only 10 hours free per month. thanks |

What you want to do is network your two computers together and then get yourself a proxy server so that when one computer is connected, both have access, and either computer can initiate the dialing. |

| 22199 | 2001-10-22 03:21:00 | thanks, but are you sure that i can with ut a network card be able to connect my second computer on to the internet using a different company's account? and only using ONE line. 'cos you know how when computers are on the internet, and you pick up the phone there's this really weird noise, so can i really connect two computers onto the internet with only one phone line but two accounts, will it mess up the phone line? will xtra or my free internet company which 'm signing up to charge me $x.xx for doing this? | Guest (0) | ||
| 22200 | 2001-10-24 05:46:00 | I use Proxy Plus to share my modem between 2 (was 3) computers. It's relatively easy to set up and it's free. It also has an awesome user forum where you get amazing help. Look at www.proxyplus.cz. If you get stuck fire me an email. |
