| 22543 | 2001-10-25 02:23:00 | My computer seems to dial the net with no programs open. Nortons and adaware says there's no viruses or spy programs installed. How do I find out what is dialing up. Matt |

For me though I nailed it down pretty quick to MSN Messenger - It was set to automatically connect when I connected to the internet, but for some reason it always tried to connect when there was no internet connection, and so it caused my computer to establish a connection :) I stopped MSN from autoconnecting (so now I make it connect manually) and it's solved my problem. |

| 22545 | 2001-10-25 23:41:00 | I had exactly this problem about 6 months ago. I can't remember now exactly what program was doing it, but one was set to autodial even if there wasn't a connection. Before you start anything, make a log of the time between dialing so you'll get a patten of when it's occuring. Whilst you say that you have nothing running, I would make a safe bet that there is stuff in your system tray (icq, msn messenger, yahoo pager, audio galaxy, etc) You'll probably find that one of these is set to dial out. If you ctrl-alt-delete you'll get a list of everything that's going in the background. If you can't find it in the settings of a particular program, try end tasking them one by one and waiting between doing each one for a while. | Guest (0) | ||
