Have read that Scan Disc and defrag should be done in 'Safe Mode'. Anyone know why? |

because that way windows won't load anything in your start up folder (saves closeing down the apps manually) and most important it loads MINIMAL SET OF DRIVERS.(something ctrl/alt/del cannot shut down) this means windows will run without using the swapfile, one of the main causes of defrag stoppages. |

I am currently using norton's utilities to do my defrags etc. This doesn't seem to have the stoppages that standard windows has...give that a try. www.symantec.com |
