22535 2001-10-25 02:27:00 I have bought a Logitech web cam to contact people in the UK.When I go to the IP address on Netmeeting I get the message 'the person you called cannot accept the call on Netmeeting'. Is there another way I can see & speak to them, or am I doing something wrong as I know they are online & in Netmeeting. Guest (0)
22536 2001-10-25 03:09:00 There are a few hooks in NetMeeting.
If you're on dial up & the other people have a permanent connection and a hardware firewall, it can be difficult to make contact. It's easier to give them your IP address and get them to call you. Use Winipcfg.exe to get your dynamic IP, and use a chat program like ICQ to be able to communicate simultaneously with Netmeeting running. The other people would also need ICQ.
Then if anything goes wrong in NM, at least you have mutual contact to sort things out.
NetMeeting cant generally support more than one call at a time, so if you know they are already in a call, then you wont make contact.
If the other people are on dial up then the IP address changes each time, so you may be trying to call the wrong number.
Its seems better also for both parties to have the same version of NM, but some people prefer the earlier versions as it had some useful features which were dropped in the later ones.

There is always useful information on NetMeeting at:
http://www.netmeet.net/

It's worth persevering with as NetMeeting is really good when it works, but you need to choose quiet times when internet traffic is light, and there's some bandwidth available.
Headphones are essential to prevent feedback echo.

Have fun.

22537 2001-10-25 03:15:00 Netmeeting is even more finicky than you might think. Generally speaking, if you run a firewall, you cant make outgoing calls. This means that if one of you has a firewall, that person has to call, and if you both have firewalls, someone has to disable it. Sometimes you also have to set the security level on the remaining firewall down to zero for the duration of the netmeet. Guest (0)
22538 2001-10-25 06:32:00 As Netmeeting is now fully integrated with msn messenger - it is easy to initiate a conference with people on your buddy list in Messenger. Just double-click the person to start a text conversation then invite then to start netmeeting. This always works for me - and you can use messenger to 'walk through' the other person or vice versa.

I yes would too definitely recommend the use of heaphones.. ya look geeky but there are no echos.

22539 2001-10-25 07:13:00 Hello Paul,
All of the above concerning netmeeting, and as a complete alternative you could try, paltalk, which has really good video and sound qualities. Both parties have to have the program, and you can chat and video individuly or in chat rooms, that you set up yourself, or in rooms that are supervised.
One down side is that it has annoying popups until you pay for it.
good luck,
Bob

22540 2001-10-25 07:54:00 There are other issues apart from firewall config that can affect this..

The pc that you are trying to use with netmeeting is part of and ICS either gateway or terminal, and if so what verson of windows (if using windows) are you using.

Also how do you connect to the internet. Via dial up modem, jetstream, ultra, etc..

Thanks
Jess
