22420 2001-10-24 00:22:00 Hi there,

I am using AMD K6II 3D Processor with 64M Ram, running Windows 98.

Two weeks ago my Computer suddenly started having slow response problem. When I start it, it comes up with windows 98 screen but it takes at least 2-3 mins before windows 98 starts. I am also having problem with internet. When I click on a link, it takes at least 30seconds before it sends any command through.

I am not quite sure what causes this problem.

22421 2001-10-24 01:21:00 could be a number of things

1. how full is your hdd as you should have 200-300mb free for the swap file

2. have you defraged you drive?

3. windows can be slow if it is trying to access a network, if gives up after a time so the windows does finsh loading, this can happen when you have a virus checker that automaticly checks for updates.

4. to see if its your modem or your isp being slow try loging on with a friends account (if they use a different isp !). Also have you added anything to you line lately (eg a new phone)? that could cause it two.

22422 2001-10-24 02:11:00 Hi Craig,

Thank you for your propt reply.

I have 4G hdd free, I have defrag 5 times so far. I haven't added any software/hardware or installed new phone. I Tried with my other ISP, same result.

22423 2001-10-25 01:04:00 I Had the same sudden slowdown by my computer; a PIII 450 with 96 MB of ram. The cause of the slowdown turned out to be Realplayer jukebox. Things sped up nicely when I removed the jukebox componant from Real Player. Guest (0)
