22646 2001-10-26 05:46:00 A friend has Word 2000 and the Menu bar and Tool bars are not there. Have shifted normal.dot out of usual location and restarted Word which is supposed to recreate brand new normal.dot with std settings - didn't work! 'Repaired' the installation - didn't work. Uninstalled and reinstalled but obviously setting still in registry. Suspect these bars are 'floating' but they are not visible and there is no response to Alt T O for options or any other key commands. Any quick help or direction please?? Guest (0)
22647 2001-10-26 06:13:00 Hi John, haven't used Word in a while. But try going to the view menu and selecting toolbars.

22648 2001-10-26 06:53:00 Thanks JM, but that is the problem - there is no Menu Bar available! There is just the Title Bar, rh scroll bar, ruler and status bar at the bottom. No amount of right/left clicking will produce any useful menus. Guest (0)
22649 2001-10-26 07:23:00 The menu bar can be turned into a floating panel which can become hidden behind the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
Move your cursor over the taskbar until the double arows appear and drag the bar out of view then right click anywhere in the screen and the menu bar should appear.
Check all round the edge of your screen for anything sticking out.
Or it could be hidden behind the office shortcut bar.
I must admit I have tried everything to try and lose mine but a click in the screen has seen it pop up immediatley every time.
Can't think of anything else sorry.

22650 2001-10-26 07:29:00 The screen could have been set to full-screen. If there is no button there to push to get back to normal view, press the ESC key, and hopefully it'll return everythihng back to normal Guest (0)

22652 2001-10-26 07:35:00 Thanks BC and Mike. Tried the ESC but was not set to full screen. No office shortcut bar to hide behind. Will try Task bar hiding, thanks. (PC not with me - at friends place). Also will try that link offered. Thanks people. Guest (0)
