Just connect your wrist strap to the metal frame of your case

22641 2001-10-26 05:57:00 provided the case has a power supply fitted and it is pluged into a wall socket. Guest (0)
22642 2001-10-26 06:24:00 Make that plugged in but turned off, the wrist strap is just an electrical circuit, and the electricity can flow both ways.

I can think of a couple of things Id rather do than connect my wrist to live mains... ;-)

22643 2001-10-27 02:41:00 A lot of it comes down to common sense. You don't handle components by the gold plated connectors, you don't pick them up at all without touching an earthed surface, (or wearing an antistatic strap) ...
You won't get a lethal shock because you are wearing an antistatic strap: there is a megohm of resistance built into the lead. They thought of that. If you touch a mains phase, you'll feel it earthed or not. If you are effectively earthed you might not feel it for long.

22644 2001-10-31 04:30:00 Why, I just connect the strap to the case, and thats it. Guest (0)
22645 2001-10-31 04:35:00 When I put the comp bits into the newcase i put the anti-static strap to the case when it wasn't connected in. Lucky it didn't dammage it.
But when i put everything in it didn;t boot up. Nothinbg came on the screen- beeped twice. I took it into comp shop to get fixed. They said i put the cables around wrong.
What would of they done?
