I made the mistake of installing Windows XP Professional on my Amada E500 laptop only to have it cause chaos with my system. The fan starts up on maximum (screaming) and then stops altogether once the OS is loaded!! The volume control doesn't work and my A dive is not recognised by XP. The computer is not even 2 years old. The Compaq website doesn't have any updates to BIOS for XP but I hope it is not too long before they do. Sad (and expensive) day for me :-( |

Cold comfort perhaps, but I heard one of the MS reps say on TV last night that if your computer was much more than 1 year old you'd need to upgrade. Makes you wonder why MS don't get into hardware....... :-) |

I upgraded from Windows ME to XP Pro and the hint of the day is DRIVERS. Make sure you have XP drivers for everything; check the MS compatibility list and manufacturers web sites BEFORE you lose your internet access due to a modem that no longer works |

The big worry is that MS are getting into hardware! - It's called The XBox and looks suspiciously like a PC type device with networking and all. |

I wonder whether it will be MORE insecure than MS's OS is now (tho' that does seem a hard ask!!!) :-) |

I read a couple of days ago (sorry I can't find the link) that most of the demo X-boxes on display in US stores crashed so often that they were unuseable.
And they were finalised units. |
