22541 2001-10-25 03:16:00 I recently had technical problems and had to reinstall all my applications including Norton anti virus. Formerly when I brought up the Norton window I was able to regularly down load virus updates but now the window has no option for this. Any suggestion as to what has happened . Additionally any mail attachment received,I would save to the desk top, right click then virus check from the drop down menu option. Now no virus check option is available when I right click. How can I virus check such attachments? Will my hard drive be safe if I send an attachment to a floppy and open it from there?
I am using Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 with Windows 98 2nd Edtn.I know it;s old but i had no worries before the reinstallation.

22542 2001-10-25 12:06:00 Hi Bryan

I'm running the same setup here and I've updated the NAV engine and so forth regularly. Quite happy with it. I think you may have to reinstall Norton again. Have a look in the Control Panel, there should be an entry called 'Symantec LiveUpdate' or 'Norton LiveUpdate'. If it's not there it can't have been installed. You may have to uninstall NAV and then install it fresh. There is one other thing too, I read somewhere that NAV supplied with new PC's had only support for 12 months of free live updates. But I'm still managing to log on and update mine even though it's gone well over a year now. So I don't know if that's the problem. Opening an attachment from a floppy is not likely to be any safer than from the hard drive I'm afraid. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Rod.
