22546 2001-10-25 03:02:00 We're running a Celeron 466, 192 MB RAM 13 GB HD with PC Cillin 98. We had a Creative Blaster 8439E CD Writer (NTI Software) installed this year. Just had our drive re-formatted (by a computer shop) and now the writer won't work. The shop don't want to know us. The error is: CDMKR32 caused an invalid page fault in module SHELL32.dll We have version 4.72.3612.1700 dated 23.4.99 of Shell 32. NTI Support have told me that their software conflicts with Internet Explorer 6 and that I should re-install 5.5 (which worked fine by the way). We also get the 'Buffer size too big to handle' error when trying to reformat CDRW's. How can Internet Explorer 6 cause problems with our Writer if it isn't even running when we go to burn a CD. Everything else on our system is working fine - I'm so frazzled, I'm about to tear my hair out - the shop just keeps giving us the runaround and making out that we've 'done something'.
I've been right through the Microsoft Knowledge Base, FAQ's etc, everything I could think of but no joy - please help this damsel in distress.
Thanks

22547 2001-10-25 06:14:00 Hello again Kaye,

I think you will need to try and find out exactly whats causing your problem.

My plan of action would be >

1 uninstall NTI CDR software
2 run the freeware reg cleaning utility Easycleaner available from >>
www.sharewarejunkies.com
3 then grab a trial version of Nero burning rom availablle from Ahead software,
if nero works fine you know the problem lies in the NTI software and I would recommend you replace it by either buying Nero or getting one of the many good freeware burning programmes off the net.
