22854 2001-10-28 12:21:00 whenever I try to play any CD Rom games they crash after a few minutes and either lock up the screen display completely or boot back to the windows desktop. I'm running win 98SE, 382 ram/600 mhz, 15 GB and all these games have run fine on this machine previously. I have the latest nvida driver installed and I have upgraded to directx 8.0. I tried installing /reinstalling the effected games, checked my video drivers and run the win trouble shooters to check all settings etc. with no luck. All other applications seem to run fine and it is all my CD rom games are crashing including Team Apache, Need for Speed, Croc, WW2 fighters and so on. I assume it is not a problem with the installation of any particular game but rather a display and/or driver fault? Guest (0)
22855 2001-10-28 13:10:00 what about games on the harddrive? could be motherboard drivers, check the dma box for the cd drives.

which directx do u have? ver 8.0 was buggy, 8.0a was better and the latest (i think it still is) is 8.1

when it crashes do you here the cd rom spinning?

any new hardware changes??

22856 2001-10-29 07:55:00 I'll check out games on the harddrive a bit further but they are running fine (I think)

I am running directX 8.00 (4.08.00.0400) according to the dxdiag box)

Not sure if the hard drive still spins (yet)

I recently installed an extra 256 ram. I had other isssues before this, that were sorted with a reformat/install but not this particular problem.

All other applications seem to be running as normal.

I'll try and locate directX 8.1

thanks for the helpso far
