| 22751 | 2001-10-27 09:20:00 | I have decided to add 256MB of RAM to my Gateway PIII 128MB pc, seeing as it is cheap just now. The problem is I have contradictory information on my motherboard. Searching the Gateway Support site using my BIOS-ID gets me a document that seems to say each socket can handle up to 128MB. Therefore I can't buy a single 256MB stick. The printed motherboard manual I have says the board can be upgraded to a total of 768MB, which is 256MB per socket, of which there are three. Economically it is clearly better to buy one 256MB stick, but I am worried that it won't go. The conservative option is to pay a little more for two 128MB sticks. (But then I've filled all the sockets!) Is there any way I can find out for sure what the motherboard can handle? As mentioned, I have scoured Gateway's support site, and being an oem version, my board is not listed in Intel's support site. Thanks! |
