23094 2001-10-30 07:48:00 I have just got a old PC to play with, 133mhz, have formatted and installed OS, don't know what video card I have and where to find a driver for it, currently using windows drivers, won't give more than 16 colors as an option? It is on smallest res. with 4mb shared memory?

Help...
Thanks

23095 2001-10-30 07:57:00 Pull it out and have a look for anything identifying it.

If its a cheap one, write down the FCC ID and look it up here:

23096 2001-10-30 08:14:00 If it has 'shared' memory it might be integrated video on the motherboard. What make/model is the computer? If windows can install drivers, it must have some idea. MyComputer/Control Panel/system/Hardware , or have you got MSD? Guest (0)
23097 2001-10-30 09:20:00 Have a look at the monitor as the computer first boots up as the type of video card is often mentioned first. Get ready to hit the Pause key. Guest (0)
23098 2001-10-30 09:29:00 TIP...how to identify what video card is installed on your system:

Pull up a command prompt and type the following:

DEBUG [ENTER]

DC000:00 [ENTER]

DC000:70 [ENTER]

Type 'quit' to exit.

This will give (some)identifying information about the video adapter installed in the machine.

Although the information will vary among manufacturers and models, it should present enough to figure out what's there.

This trick works under DOS, 9x and NT / 2000

Cheers !!!
