23047 2001-10-30 04:06:00 I was wanting to know the longitude and latitiude of our area, GOOGLE on clicking 'I'm feeling lucky' button delivered me to a site with info about our hometown - but we noticed it had www3. in the address, what does this mean? Just curious.
Thanks Heather

23048 2001-10-30 04:23:00 This is simply a 'sub domain' such as zone.msn.com or aiab.emuunlim.com . Guest (0)
23049 2001-10-30 05:39:00 Its just a name (actually a 'hostname'. It's probably the 3rd (or 4th) computer box which is running an http server at that site. Or(with 'multihosting' it could be the 3rd http server running on a particular computer box at that site. It could have been called 'fred3.' or 'heather1.' if you prefer, and you could still http://fred1.... and it would open a WWW page. It's all magic. And mostly it works. Guest (0)
