23000 2001-10-29 23:01:00 My windows explorer (on win98, notSE) is amazingly and painfully slow. Often takes about 10 seconds to react. Other software on machine seems fine. Computer has AMD k6-2 450 cpu, 196mb ram, 20GB 7200 rpm IDE. Machine homebuilt (by me). Obvious solution, install XP, but would that make any difference? What are possible reasons for this slowness? 23002 2001-10-30 11:22:00 Is it Explorer or your internet connection? Try another browser to check ( I suggest Opera5, small downlod and a fast browser.) Guest (0)
23003 2001-10-30 11:25:00 Sorry misread your post. ie WINDOWS explorer Guest (0)
23004 2001-10-30 23:48:00 I've found sometimes for me opening folders will start to take ages (over a minute), luckily the traditional windows solution fixes it (reboot). Guest (0)
23005 2001-10-31 10:39:00 Me again. I presume you have done a scan & defrag? Check your HD for space for your virtual memory, try setting it to a permanent size(should not need any more than 100megs unless you are doing grapics in a big way, or similar). Clean out your task bar and all but strictly nescessary progs(Press CTRL\ALT\DEL ONCE to see whats running. In the Control Panel\System\Performance\File System change the setting to network server. 23006 2001-11-02 01:37:00 Check the CD rom sometimes this can slow windows explorer down due to a bad/dirty CD Guest (0)
