| 22985 | 2001-10-29 19:38:00 | Can any one tell me how to self install 128 SDRAM Micro-ATX V16 motherboard or any tips or things that I should watch out for before I go and buy the RAM and installing it. I heard people says just put in the RAM in the slot and boot up the computer and follow the instructions and if anything goes wrong I'll need to reformate me computer, is it true? There's one thing that I'm worry about, now my computer is running on 64RAM but 8RAM is been used on video graphic's and that left 56RAM doing all the work. So I'm kinda worry about self installing RAMs, snice my computer is costmize and this is my first time installing a hardware. So any answers, tips or things I'll be really greatful, very greatful. Thank you. Alittle info about my computer system right now: Micro-ATX V16 motherboard AMD-500mhz 64RAM shared 1st drive-12GB(english) 2nd drive-5GB(traditional chinese) Both Window 98SE |

Be sure to match the type of ram with what your motherboard takes (mobo manual will be of help). So if it takes 168pin pc100 sdram try to get that or you should be ok with pc133 ram which is cheaper and easier to get. To install switch computer off and unplug power cords at back, take the cover off. Then discharge urself of static by touching a metal part of the case, then pull back the latches on the slot next to the ram already installed and carefully insert the ram by slotting in one side and then the other ( you may have to wiggle it a bit and try to only touch the edges of the stick), until the latches pop up on the ram and its secured. Then plug everything back, switch on and hope your new ram shows up - right click my computer/properties will tell you. Also if it doesn't work or there is a problem you wont have to format your machine, just take it back out or try switching order of the sticks around. |

| 22988 | 2001-10-29 22:41:00 | Firstly, do NOT unplug your computer from the mains. If you touch a metal part inside the computer, and the computer isnt earthed, you will just discharge any static electricity straight into your components. Turn your computer off at the mains, but leave the plug in the socket, this way your computer is earthed, and you can safely touch any metal part inside the case to discharge any static electricity. Secondly, when you are putting your chip in, be careful and do not try to force it, it is very easy to misalign the chip with the slot in the case, and you dont want to break it, go carefully until you are certain you have it in the slot, and then it will require a little effort to clip it in, and the latches should close in on the sides to hold it in place, double check the latches, because if they arent completely locked in, your computer wont boot. Finally, if when you boot up, nothing happens but instead you get a series of PC speaker beeps, this is the CPU telling you your memory is either faulty or not installed properly. In this event, double check everything to ensure that the memory chip is inserted properly, if it is, try removing the old one and putting the new one in its place, if it now works, the two chips are incompatible, and youll just have to use one, if it STILL doesnt work, you may have a faulty chip, and should take it back to the retailer and get them to check it for you. |

I am a complete novice also, and recently fitted a new 128MB Ram - this program picked up a slight problem with my install, which I was able to correct..... GOOD LUCK! | Guest (0) | ||
