| 23108 | 2001-10-30 09:09:00 | Hi there, XP has assigned my Videocard, soundcard, networkcard, modem, usb controller and microsoft ACPI system (whatever that is LOL) to IRQ9. Whenever I try to play some games the system locks up or various nasties to that effect. Logic tells me that all of these items sharing the one IRQ has to be the problem, unfortunately it has greyed out the option to manually configure any of these devices. My OS is win XP Professional and I am logged in as administrator with no other users set up. Hardware is as follows: Leadtek Geforce 2 mx400 SH Pro in the AGP Slot. Soundblaster live value in the first PCI. Then an empty PCI. Conexant soft 56k in the next PCI. Realtek RTL 8139 ethernet in the next PCI slot. Motherboard is a Gigabyte 6VXC7-4X-P, 1AGP, 5 PCI, 1 ISA. Chipset is a VIA. I am using the latest drivers for everything, have tried different drivers and moving my cards around. Any suggestions??? Thank You |

IBM's old bad design decisions strike again. For all these devices to be allocated the same ITRQ means they are all PCI: have a look in your BIOS setup to see if there's a way to setup some other IRQ for the PCI slots. | Guest (0) | ||
| 23111 | 2001-10-31 08:59:00 | Win2K and XP use a new feature called IRQ sharing to get around the limit of only 16 IRQ's. My Win2K machine has the video, audio, modem, NIC, etc all on IRQ 9. What games are the problem? There are also some bad problems with some config's of the SB Live and the VIA chipset. Do a search in Google for the game and the SB and VIA devices and see what turns up |

I have had a float around google, but no real joy from anything there. Looks like manualy configuring your IRQ's is one of those little features the evil microsoft has taken away from us. |
