1281552 2012-06-14 00:34:00 Hi there
Why is it that some techs & PC Companies think its OK to wrap/coil sata cables around the internal power cables, multiple wraps around these internal power cables.
Surely anyone who cant see why this shouldnt be done should be let near a PC ??
Its the 2nd PC in a week Ive discovered setup like this . This one is from a well known local company/PC Builder
Any of the techs here actually doing this ?? just wondering

A bit like sparkies who think its OK to wrap Network cables around a 6" nail when they install cables (yes thats happens as well)

1281553 2012-06-14 05:18:00 They probably think they're being tidy or something, poor man's cable management. I don't think coiling them is a great Idea but It shouldn't cause any real problems other than stressing the cables and being a nuisance to change.
Most generic PC's I've seen have little to no effort put into cabling routing and I suspect are assembled by cheap labour rather than skilled techs.
On the other hand some name brands take it to extremes and use custom length cables etc to make everything tidy, and very difficult to upgrade.

I used to tie everything tidily but it becomes a pain in the butt later so now I use strips of velcro so it's easily removable.

1281554 2012-06-14 08:33:00 I buy a case with plenty of room in the back panel, spread it out and never open it again. Slankydudl (16687)

Brilliant idea!

However, I suspect after a few years it looks very laden with dust. Also has a degree of combustibility if an ages old NASA experience is still valid today (in 100% oxygen environment... why the hell fif they do that?)

I have an opposite problem associated with a roomy case.
The IDE and SATA inputs on the MOBO are at the opposite end of the case than the drive bays, requiring extra long cables, or very awkward cable runs.
One of the IDE ribbons to a removable drive bay is so taught there's barely any room to run any other cables beneath it.

1281556 2012-06-14 10:38:00 i have the problem of having 2 drives and a optical with only a 5 plug cable but it cant reach the opticle when plugged into the drives... so i just use the 2 molex plug which one goes to the fan controllor and use a molex to sata power adaptor... just need a 2 plug sata power and it will all be tidy. 1281557 2012-06-14 11:38:00 Got any photos/pictures of what you are talking about 1101? Seen plenty that have sata data cables tied in the same loom, but not ones wrapped or coiled around the power supply cables. Iantech (16386)
