1259463 2012-02-16 07:34:00 Do addreses ever expire if you dont use them or do they just keep on.
Is there any email provider that gives you a temporary address.
i sometimes visit sites that ask for an email address or a return email. I figure that it is a scam to get addresses for a list but would still like to play along.

1259464 2012-02-16 07:50:00 Many people use places like Yahoo, hotmail ( live mail), gmail as a "throw away address" that way its not their main email address which they may only want to give out to certain trusted people. With some of them if you do not login for over 90 days they may delete the account, others 6 months or a year without any activity.

An example, from memory, live mail if theres no activity, as you dont log in then after 270 days its gone.

Your ISP will have email addresses for you, most have at least 6 free. As long as you pay your fees, monthly or how ever often you pay then those will be valid. if you close down your account then the email will disappear as well.

Of course what I should have dome in the first place was Google it.
There are hundreds of free short term email addresses available.

That's the point, you don't want replies.

1259471 2012-02-16 23:13:00 I wanted an address that was good for a couple of months then was cancelled and I think I found that with Google.
Lawrence,I know one shouldnt reply to spammers but sometimes I cant help it and copy a long piece from somwhere, use Google tranlate to convert it to a rare language and hope they spend time trying to translate it.

1259472 2012-02-16 23:28:00 How does that work, you send mail then Addy gone, how do you get a reply? You don't - the whole idea is that it's a temporary receive-only mailbox that only lasts for a few minutes.

It's intended for things like sites that require an email address to sign up (activation emails etc), but you don't want to give them a real address. This lets you receive the emails without needing to worry about being spammed in the future.
