1259255 2012-02-15 18:24:00 Have a look at this (www.stuff.co.nz) article on the Press Web site.

Absolutely disgusting that they treated this man this way.

Yes I accept that this only shows one side of the story....

1259256 2012-02-15 19:07:00 If you get a call for an armed offender in an area and see a guy with a pistol and a baseball bat what do you do? HINT: the answer isn't to ask him politely to get out some ID and ask if he is terrorizing a neighborhood.

Personally I think the matter was handled fine as far as the circumstances go, of course people are going to complain if they don't understand the situation. The fact is, you cant just trust everyone.

True, but these chaps love the chance to become Rambo.

1259261 2012-02-15 20:32:00 I sympathise with the Cops right up to the time they had disarmed him, but after that it was plain crazy.

I’d like them to justify arresting him and charging him only to be told the charges wouldn’t stick.

Surely, if you’re the Armed Offenders on a mission and you get the wrong guy you just apologise and send him packing.

I note also that the Area Commander is the same Bobbie that received promotion for his heroism at Pike River. :groan:

1259262 2012-02-15 21:19:00 Personally I think if you find yourself wielding a pistol, real or not, and a baseball bat in the vicinity of an armed squad deployment, you have done very well to still be capable of moaning about your treatment afterwards. 'Daft old bugger has a bloody lucky escape' would be a more appropriate headline as I see it. Contented (15925)
