1281517 2012-06-14 10:18:00 Weird thing is, if i go to Control Pannel, my Windos Firewall says it's active, but the little flag thingy in my task-bar still says i should re-check the settings and they still point to "being controled by the system administrator", although if i go through CP i can modify them as i wish. I have Spybot, nothing but some adware found, installing threatfire and will do a panda scan.

What's the best free antivirus out there? Any other security programs i should know about if i decide to start over? Nothing but the basics, i don't want it to be full of stuff that does the same thing. Speedy you got a PM.

Do you not read the threads that are posted on here? Msse is the best AV for free and Nod 32 the best paid one.

1281518 2012-06-14 10:28:00 Whatever it was, it removed / deleted the programs under admin tools in control panel. I've just copied/pasted them back. He's just rebooted. Only prob now is the firewall wont turn on. Something has disabled it under group policy. Just have to find the entry Speedy Gonzales (78)
1281519 2012-06-14 11:26:00 This entry was the main culprit (windowsxp.mvps.org). The windowsfirewall entry in the registry. It was on his but its not on mine. So, that link I would say applies to Win7 too. I deleted it, then reset group policy (the network entries to not configured), then rebooted. Seems to be on now. Just logged in with TV. Firewall is ok, seems to be working. It also disabled 7-8 services. So, changed them to what I had on mine Speedy Gonzales (78)
1281520 2012-06-14 13:21:00 Im kinda interested on how you got it. For the most part you dont get viruses aslong as you use the internet wisely, although speedy will probably teel me im wrong. Slankydudl (16687)
1281521 2012-06-14 13:28:00 Its possible someone used Utorrent (this is installed) / downloaded something and ran an infected file. Without scanning it first Speedy Gonzales (78)
1281522 2012-06-14 16:41:00 Tell you the truth i'm kinda interested on what it is besides how i got it. My best bet is through Yahoo Messenger, i am being bombarded with links and i might have opened an e-mail containing the virus. But i never ever download spam e-mail attachments or execute them, nor do i visit hax sites or anything of the sort. Would pay to see how i got it and if i'm the first one to get it, seems like nobody on the internet has it besides me. Luppi (12974)
1281523 2012-06-15 01:34:00 Try a bootable AV scanner CD like BitDefender Rescue CD or such Agent_24 (57)
1281524 2012-06-15 01:59:00 I dont think its on the system now. The main prob was the windowsfirewall entry in the registry. Which stopped the firewall from turning on. All I had to do was copy the programs back into admin tools (since it deleted them, or something did), changed some entries in services (since some were disabled / on the wrong setting), and delete the entry in the registry, then reboot. Then it turned on. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1281525 2012-06-15 06:18:00 Then it turned on.
I followed this with interest and like to congratulate you Speedy and others for your fast help to the request.:clap
