G+ is great for photos from your phone with Instant Upload, but as pcuser42 points out, G+ is not a storage solution but a social network. If it's documents you want online access to, then Google Docs or Dropbox (or similar) is what you want... |

At the moment they get backed up on an external drive, and whenever the family is around, we take copies of each others photos, but cloud storage as well would be a lot better! |

Picasa would suit you for images. I think you get 1GB for free, but can buy more space if you need it... Alternatively, Dropbox definitely has upgradeable storage - for a price... |
