1258291 2012-02-09 08:18:00 I'm not going to opine, as you provide no background or detailed info about the $67m grants to make a valid call.

1258297 2012-02-09 21:13:00 you state that $67 million has been distributed in grants to 76,463 people .
and the news article backs you up on the numbers, but gives little other details .

you then ask, "Has the money been used wisely?"
what is your question aiming at?

assuming that you are asking about the use of the $67M to give grants . . .

do you think that there would be a better use of the $67M ?
what would be better than to give a small grant to people in need ?

assuming that you are talking about what the people receiving the grants used it for . . . .

do you think that the 76463 people didn't use it for the right things?
we don't know what they used it for, but that's an average of about $870 per person, a few weeks wages at best . . .

and last of all . . . .
did you personaly donate to Red Cross Chch fund ?
if you dident put in any of the $$ then why should you care about what it gets spent on .

1258298 2012-02-09 21:20:00 personally I gave some $$ to the Red Cross Chch fund.

I am trust that they did the best as they saw fit at the time.

was it the best possible way to spend the $$ ? , maybe not.
but in an emergence like Chch, I would rather see a good solution right now than have a bunch of managers spend 3 years deciding what is the best answer (and taking a 20% cut for the job).

1258299 2012-02-09 21:51:00 Yep ... think you need a lot more detailed information before anyone can make an informed decision. Having said that, the Red Cross is a very well respected organisation and proven track record of assisting those in need during a crisis, I suspect they have done the best they could with the resources they had available.

I think you'll find that the majority of Red Cross workers are volunteers and don't go skimming 25% off the top like a lot of other organisations.

I donated ... I have faith they used that money to aid someone a lot less fortunate than myself.
