1466324 2020-01-30 18:30:00 I have an 8 year old WD Network Hard Drive that I can't log on from one of my computers that I have log on in the past. I get an error message (go.microsoft.com/fwink/?linkid=852747) When I put in the link I get a 401 error code. It worked before so do I need to buy a new one? lostsoul62 (16011)

too little info
Windows10 ?
can you access it from other PC's
how are you access it, have you tried a reset. Is it powering on . Can you get into its management console?

could be a smb issue :linkid=852747
docs.microsoft.com

8 years is pretty old, if its needed for important data .

1466326 2020-01-30 22:09:00 Yes it's a linked=852747 and I can't find a way to up grade it to SMB2 so I can see the drive. Can see if from Windows 7 but not from Windows 10. I'm thinking about buying WDBVXC0040HWT from amazon and it's the first on the page. I'm a little confused about the USB 3 along side the RJ45.
PS: How can I get an email to notifies me when someone answers my post?

What do you mean by network hard drive? How is it connected? What is it connected to?

Im guessing its a WD single drive NAS. Very basic NAS .

1466329 2020-01-30 22:41:00 Being the age of the NAS AND windows 7 can see it SMB very well may be turned off in W10.

You may have to enable it again, or at least try SMB1 Which Windows 10 turns off sometimes as its considered insecure these days.

BUT look and enable, go to the search, type in Control, Open the Control Panel - Programs and features - On the left, Turn Windows features on or Off -- Scroll down and enable SMB. You may need to reboot, then try the NAS again.

But backing up 1101's comment, don't use green drives they are crap and slow, if you want NAS drives use the WD Reds or Ultrastar (upto 14TB), or if you want Seagate Ironwolf they are designed for NAS's. But being an old NAS it may not take large drives (Shrugs shoulders)
