| 1465924 | 2020-01-10 03:41:00 | My existing Canon MP520 has just stopped can't alter paper feed so not working anymore, just need a basic printer to print bank statements (PDF) general home printing and scanner for receipts etc. As this is an old printer, have got out of touch how much to spend with a view of running costs ink cartridges ? I see you can get them for as low as $15.00 wouldn't mind spending about $100 is this a realistic price for something half decent? |

| 1465927 | 2020-01-10 06:08:00 | I have a B&W Brother All in One lazer and as Gary says that is a good way to go. The rare colour print I need I just put on a USB stick and print it at the local Warehouse Stationery Outfit. | CliveM (6007) | ||

With inkjets ( any brand) if you don't use them the inks will evaporate, where as a laser you can leave for years and still have the same amount of toner. A good little laser is the Brother DCP1610W 20ppm Mono Laser Multi Function Printer. Bit more than $100 BUT anything cheap is exactly that cheap rubbish that will end up costing you more in the long run. Not to sure about colour scanning. Just purchased in December a Brother MFCL2713DW 34ppm Mono Laser Multi Function Printer, more upmarket and has Ethernet port Connections, printing is Black but the scanner will do colour (scan to the Computers). Then if I need to colour print I use the Colour Laser. Links to Brother But you can shop around and get some good deals from various places , look for their cashbacks ( from time to time) as well, good savings. www.brother.co.nz The one I purchased: (over the top for your usage, but not for business) www.brother.co.nz |

TN1070 Compatible Toner - 3 Pack for Brother $86 . 19 YIELD: 3000pgs Not bad . . . . . . . . . . . seeing as you get 3 . Laser or Ink, this is the catch, far too many people buy some printer and then don't realise cost of the consumables (and how many pages you get) is the catch! |

Thats true, one of the things I look at , and some customers have complained about with inks. If they do mainly Black, why pay for extra colours when you dont use them. And another - Seen MANY times someone buys inks, uses the printer once or twice, then 3-5 months later go to use it and all the inks gone (Evaporated), where as a laser its doesn't. Sure inks can be cheaper up front BUT if most of the ink evaporates due to lack of use, its rather expensive prints. :) | wainuitech (129) | ||

Lots of printers these days, if any ink runs out it will stop printing completely to stop any damage. Why pay for 3 (or more) colors and not use them. Lasers don't do that. :) Yesterday I pulled out an old brother laser I've had in the workshop that hasn't been used for close to 5 years, Was giving it away to someone, so best make sure it still went, gave the toner a shake, wiped off the dust, removed the spiders web, and away it went the same as last time it was used, try that with a Inkjet :D |
