WAIT 2 weeks untill its fully tested in the wild & proven to be bug free :) Just a hint of paranoia? Waiting two weeks won't guarantee an update is bug free - a problem may depend on exactly what you do with your PC or might involve a slightly different interaction with an existing bit of software. Life is risky, and we have to trust someone. I have got into the habit of running Windows System File Check (SFC) before and after installing updates. Mostly, everything is OK, but occasionally it isn't and some corruption is detected and fixed. Running SFC before increases the likelihood of a trouble-free installation; running after reduces the chance of an error creeping in and causing trouble further down the line. By how much, I don't know, but a little caution won't do any harm, and I can't recall any major problem resulting from a Windows update. In fact, with modern computers dealing with terabytes of storage, gigabytes of RAM and flipping bytes on and off at gigahertz speeds for hours on end, it never ceases to amaze me that our PCs work at all. The people who supply the hardware and software must be doing something right. |

| 1472403 | 2020-10-22 03:27:00 | Ya know all OS's give problems and have bugs, W7 still has unfixed bugs, as well as Linux (see link for mint20 in the post by piroska). Then at the end of the mint known Faults list is a link to others since mint is based on Ubuntu. I'm just going to point out here that I had to drive out to fix a Linux server the other day as an update stopped it from booting entirely. Never had that problem with Windows :) |

At the present rate of destruction I'll still be on 18 when 30 is released. :D I did 19 cause it had more builtins, a couple of which I wanted. And, I have done a kernel update. My Thunderbird would hang on open (without opening) and stuff the rest of the desktop. Couldn't find a reason or fix anywhere, whatever I tried, suggestion on net etc.........so I thought bugger it, give it a go. And it cured it. Weird. I'm cautious on those too though, my brother is 6 ahead of me.....LOL, but that's OK, if he is happy to be guinea pig I'll trail along behind.... |

In that contest, MS lead the field, but Win ME was probably their best (worst) performer, with many thousands of apoplexies to its credit. This BTW is being done on a very old laptop with Win 7, which has yet to put a foot wrong (or the metric equivalent) in spite of (maybe because of?) never having auto (or any) updates enabled. |

Don't know for what reason, the said update for my other much older machine came through much earlier, about a week ago.Theres not a lot new, mainly bug fixes, and improvements within already installed programs / options. The majority of the changes are under the bonnet and wont even be noticed. Some of the "Professional tasks" have been upgraded, but again most people dont even know they exist. One Visual change is the folder icons in the start menu, most wont even notice it ;) Now ya gonna go look :p |

That is not a MS problem. You cannot expect to receive support for something they do not manufacture. That is like expecting a Tesla dealer to have spare parts for a 20 year old Lada. Having said that most of the generic drivers MS supplies work just fine with most equipment. |
