| 1471477 | 2020-09-15 09:55:00 | I'm looking at getting a new printer and was considering a laser until I came across this thread. I don't do regular daily or weekly printing so every time my inkjet printer is switched on it feeds itself a ton of ink preparing to print so I'm replacing cartridges all the time. Does the Epsom do this ink wasting cleaning routine? | tommy (2826) | ||

Does the Epsom do this ink wasting cleaning routine? All inkjets do that. Every time they start up they do that. It's not exactly wasting...." With the water based ink, even if the printer is powered off properly which seats the cartridge(s) on a rubber seal, some evaporation occurs so priming will often be needed after it sits idle for a while. " Don't turn them off. Then they don't. Well not much anyway. If it has sat for ages, it might. |

Some brands waste alot of ink with cleaning cycles (Canon: the worst) , and some models are better/worse than others My Epson isnt that bad , my old canon wasted so much ink with cleaning, I threw it away. If you dont need color , buy a laser printer . |

| 1471481 | 2020-09-15 22:19:00 | If you dont need color , buy a laser printer . You can also use a color laser, depending on the type of Color printing you want to do. Might not be as good for photos but for basic color they are brilliant. Sure the toners may be more expensive up front but time wise they don't evaporate like Inks do so end up no waste with cleaning etc. The toners on mine last approx. 4 reams of Paper, that's 2000 Prints (give or take) |

| 1471482 | 2020-09-15 23:26:00 | Actually I would say the worst ink waster is HP> I had one...new. Every time black ran out it would tell me the entire set of 4 were empty, even if I had used no colour. I discovered a class action suit ongoing in the US over it...and asked HP for a refund. It progressed to me filing a disputes tribunal paper, and they decided against attending and refunded me. Never bought HP since. As for lasers.....it's no different. The issue is cost per page. Some lasers are the same, bugger all pages per toner... My new Epson it's $20 per bottle of ink....4600 pages for black and 7500 for the colours Good value IMO. |
