23228 2001-10-31 10:06:00 Recently started a new job. The computer defaults to sorting files in Windows Explorer, Open Boxes, Save Boxes etc by Date rather than by file name (VERY irritating!) The boss says it's been like it for a while since he installed an (unspecified) program. Resorting only solves it temporarily. Any ideas? Guest (0)
23229 2001-10-31 10:57:00 Go to view in windows explorer then folder options/view and check 'remember each folder's view settings'.

This may fix problem.

23230 2001-10-31 11:06:00 Tried that first - it didn't work. I suspect it's something horrible deep in the Registry but I don't know where to start. Incidentally, it's Win 98. Guest (0)
23231 2001-10-31 12:39:00 Hello HP,

If your working a lot with files, you really should not be using Windows explorer (adequate at best) head along to www.ontrack.com and download the free version of powerdesk this one utility provides an amazing array of features and once used you wil forget all about your present problem, I think you can also install it off the November PC world mag CD.

23232 2001-10-31 20:22:00 It also saves a lot of time if you set up one folder how you want it, then go to View/Folder Options/View and click Like Current Folder.

Close explorer and open it again, and every folder has the same settings.

23233 2001-10-31 21:11:00 Dear Iain,
I thoroughly agree with you. As soon as I saw the problem that is exactly what I did. The problem is that it won't save it. Some program, for whatever reason of it's own, seems to override it
