| 23164 | 2001-10-30 23:37:00 | A friend used W95's MS Backup to backup to 4 floppies. However floppy 4 is blank and he cannot restore to Win 98. It gets to disk 4 and says the backup set is incomplete. Is there any way to extract the data from the 3 good disks to at least save something. Thankyou |

Is the last disk producing a directory with no files, or is there a complaint that it is not formatted? I don't (and wouldn't) use MS Backup, so I'm guessing from memories of what the DOS version was like. Can you get files back one by one: There used to be a directory on the first floppy, and an option to read it. Or is the directory on the last disk? Which means we have BAD problems. See the thread below 'Unfaormatted disk ...' for my suggestions about getting an expendible copy of the faulty disk. If disk 4 is just an empty directory, you might try on a W95 (or in desperation on the W98)machine 'undelete a:'. This won't harm the disk, and if it works :one backup file, (and maybe a related file) ONLY ... it's fixed If it shows odd old normal files, don't let it write do the undelete. (I would be happier trying to restore the files on a W95 box if possible. MS was never any good at backups between versions). Otherwise try Norton Disk Doctor on the copy of the disk. | Guest (0) | ||
