23415 2001-11-02 08:29:00 I am trying to network two computers together. One is ok but the other has a problem with the driver. When I add the card in Networks, two appear in the System-View Devices by Type window. Both say Accton EN1660 PnP LAN Card and clash with each other. If I remove one, both go. Also I checked share Files and Printer in Networks, but do I have to uncheck and reboot every tine I go on the net as I have been told other people can get access to your computer.
Thanks.

23416 2001-11-02 09:05:00 I'm not sure what operating system you are using.

In windows you don't have to add the card in networks, if it's plug and play, windows will have installed it, and it will be in network neighbourhood already.

You could be installing the same card twice.

Also if you use Internet explorer, it will ask you if you want to disable file and printer sharing, when you hook up to the net.

You don't need to reboot.

23417 2001-11-02 10:55:00 mmmmm....i've never had windows ask me if i wanted file shareing over the net, i make damn sure it can't file share over the net;-)

grc.com and a decent firewall.

also a small plus as jim p found out the hard way, tweaking the mtu/rwin settings for internet effects the lan speed as well. put if you use a different protocol for the file share you get around that and the firewalls don't interfer as well.

23418 2001-11-02 19:16:00 Win 98 & internet explorer will ask you, the first time you hookup, after you have enabled file and printer sharing.

That is why you have 'perform system security check' enabled.

It asks you if you would like to disable file sharing over your 'TCP internet connection', and requires a reboot the first time you turn it on.

I'm not sure what happens in W2k.
