| 23324 | 2001-11-01 07:04:00 | I have recently tried to install some antivirus software, however it says it detected another antivirus program which needs to be removed first. I have tried to uninstall a trial version of PC-Cillan however after running the un-install it comes back saying it cannot proceed as the (something).ISU file cannot be located. I have manually deleted the files however I still have the same problem, I'm guessing it's a problem with the registry. How can I access the registry to remove the offending entries and what program do I use? regedit.exe - makes no sense, are there any good shareware programs out there, and is this a registry problem? |

Either way, make sure the old AV program isn't autoloading (check the startup folder, or maybe any control panel applet for the program). Good luck, Robo. |

I suspect you are correct in that some Registry Key has been left behind from a previous programme which is causing your problem with a new install. Fortunately for us regular users, there are some very useful-third party applications which can do simple tasks such as you have in mind and which I will come to shortly. First off, may I suhggest you try resolving your problem by 'reinstalling' the trial version of PC-Cillan and then attempt a *clean* uninstall using the programmes uninstaller. Hopefully that will work although some (many!) programmes leave keys in the Registry which, in the case of Anti Virus programmes/checkers, will often prevent the installation of another product. If this does not solve your problem, then your own suggestion of using another Programme to edit the Registry is a sound one. There are several good freeware programmes available: Tony Art's 'Easy Cleaner' being one and available at www.saunalahti.fi Another [and my preferred choice, although i use both] is Jouni Vuorio's 'RegCleaner' which is available at http://www.jv16.org/ Both programmes come with good, easy to follow Help files which will detail how to remove your offending Registry Key/s. Best wishes. Cheers !!! e_ |
