Have tried Boot Magic MBR anwer yes to change MBR Nothing changes.
Dos Fdisk /MBR to Recreate Master Boot Record on Disk 1

Dos and Windows can not find C:drive but Linux can and all files are still on C: drive 1.

23314 2001-11-01 06:10:00 Oh dear. I imagine you have made similar remarks. However, all is probably not lost. First, get some information. From a DOS boot, do 'fdisk /status'. That will tell you what MS thinks. Boot to Linux, and in a window do 'fdisk'. just do 'p' to write out what Linux knows. Write down the partition types. (They are hexadecimal.) Then type 'l'. This will give you the translation of these codes to descriptions. Then type 'q' to exit.If the /dev/hda1 C: disk is not an MS type, that will explain it all. I am *pretty* sure that just changing the partition type from within the linux fdisk won't destroy anything. It's making a filesytem in a partition which destroys it. I DON'T know what Disk Druid, cfdisk, or any other (Mandrake?) partitioner do. I don't know what Boot Magic does. But Linux fdisk should be able to change the type back if you know what it should be. (VFAT?) But I don't like that DOS error message: that sort of thing indicates that a particular single byte in the MBR is wrong, not something in the partition table. And none of these partitioning progs should touch it. Post the information you get, so people can see what you have.
And, just in case, let the BIOS autodetect the hard disk again. You never know your luck. (Linux takes much less notice of the BIOS stuff than MS does).

23315 2001-11-01 07:56:00 Another thought: RedHat LILO saves the original MBR in the /boot directory, and has a way of restoring it. GRUB ,and Mandrake probably do the same. Mandrake gurus ... Guest (0)
23316 2001-11-03 04:26:00 Have regained all C:Drive Windows files.
Error message was
C:\ Dir Invalid Media Type reading C:Drive.
Discovered I did not need MBR change.
Just Fdisk Delete C: primary Drive format and copy back all Windows file that I had copied to Linux Dir for a back up.
Linux Grub meuu now boots to Windows or Linux
Simple when you find out HOW!
Thanks for your email
