23542 2001-11-04 00:50:00 Could you help me with NZ sites that I can go to get advice and the bits I will need to build my own PC. Guest (0)
23543 2001-11-04 05:26:00 Firstly, if all you are looking for is information regarding what all the various components do, dont limit yourself to NZ sites.

Go to http://www.tomshardware.com

This site will tell you pretty much everything you could possibly want to know, as well as several things you dont really want to know about hardware.

Recipe for building a computer

1 x ATX power supply
1 x case
1 x Motherboard
1 x CPU
minimum 1 x RAM
minimum 1 x Harddrive
1 x floppy drive
1 x keyboard
1 x mouse

optional extras:
1 x graphics card
1 x soundcard
1 x modem
1 x network card
1 x CDROM

Make sure your motherboard can handle your RAM and your CPU

Make sure you have an AGP port if you want a graphics card

Make sure the motherboard has enough expansion slots for anything you will want to add.

Make sure you use an anti static strap when handling components, clipping the other end to something that is earthed (but not live ;-)

Be prepared to spend SEVERAL hours working at it, in my experience it is never 100% working the first attempt.

23544 2001-11-04 08:26:00 no dont just go new zealand sites. Most of your components are from china or america or soemthing anyway.

www.tweak3d.net there is a photographic 'how to' step by step guide there on building a pc.

23548 2001-11-04 22:23:00 Try trademe.co.nz for 2nd hand gear its sometimes cheaper to buy a whole system built up by a gamer headed over seas or upgrading. If you want new parts Ascent.co.nz http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/
Stay away from on board sound and graphics if you are serious about gaming.
