23813	2001-11-07 02:07:00	We have installed Windows 2000 on a network. Our machines have onboard sound and NICs, with the correct drivers installed from the systems disks and no known conflicts, even though some have differing hardware configurations. However, some machines have Atapi 44x CD-ROMs in them and when we put a CD-R disk in them they take ages trying to read them and we eventually get a messge saying the device was removed in an unsafe manner. The icon for the CD drive disappears from 'My Computer' and doesn't come back until the machine is rebooted. Microsoft have listed a similar problem occurring with W2K and hibernation mode, with the resolution being an update of the atapi.sys file (dated 08/01/2001. We haven't been able to find this file anywhere, and don't really know if this fix will work. Any ideas, anyone? All our other CDs (Sony, Panasonic and Atapi 40x) work fine ... it's just this one that has prob. Thanx for your time ... Rz	Guest (0)
23814	2001-11-07 02:38:00	I don't know if its relevent, but aparantly many OEMs ship the drives with the jumper on the back of the drive set to Cable Select rather than Master/Slave.	Guest (0)
23815	2001-11-08 00:11:00	You could try turning off the 'boot from CD' option in the BIOS: looks as if Windows thinks the CD is a system device, which should be shut down in an orderly fashion. Then remove and reinstall the CD drive?	Guest (0)
