23800 2001-11-07 00:32:00 I seem to have a problem with my soundblaster Live soundcard with Windows2000 pro. I have installed the lastest drivers of it, but still have a problem with sounds in different programs and games. Sometimes the sounds are slightly delayed or build-up and play all at once.

I've heard that there is a compatibility problem with SBLive's for W2k and XP. Have other people heard of this? And why hasn't Msoft or SBLabs solve this problem?

23801 2001-11-07 02:17:00 The Live series of cards have a few different issues. If your motherboard has a VIA chipset try downloading the latest 4in1 driver set from VIA to see if that corrects the issue.

Some users have found that winding down the hardware acceleration for the card in Windows itself can help.

Another thing that I have seen work with the Live is to set the PCI slot the card is in to use IRQ9 in the BIOS.

If you have an Intel chipset motherboard you could download their latest Intel.inf for all chipsets (all chipsets are integrated in one tool) and apply that.

There is an issue with XP, the Live series of cards and a memory leak which MS have a fix for.

Another thing I have found can cause problems with the Live is if you have it in the first PCI slot next to your AGP slot and it doesn't want to cooperate properly. I generally install the Live in the second PCI slot on any PC's I build or fix.

Most of the issues I have seen with the Live though come down to problems with motherboards in some way. If it persists after trying all the previous try it in different slots on the board and also try removing and reinstalling it with the latest set of drivers bypassing all previous sets of drivers.

23802 2001-11-07 07:33:00 Just reinforcing Johns comments re-motherboards, my ABIT KT7A has a BIOS upgrade to cure SB Live problems. That was the first thing I had to do on a new board to get sound working properly. Guest (0)
23803 2001-11-07 10:09:00 I have an MSI mb and my Live!Value card works fine with W2K.

I experience two weird problems:
1. no particular driver seems to correct an unidentified hardware device that can only be the SB card. But since the sound works, I don't want to mess with it.
2. I get a lot of pops, crackles, etc when playing tracks and I open a new app or do something. Again, I don't think it is worth messing with it :o)

23804 2001-11-07 23:47:00 There is one other fix I use a bit with the live and that is to disable the DOS emulation for the card in the device manager tab under system in the control panel. This will often correct the detection of unknowen device a boot problem as well as stabilising the whole system. Just tick the box marked 'disable in this hardware profile' on the properties of the DOS for sound (cannot remember exactly what its called sorry but you will see it if you look around the device manager). 23805 2001-11-08 03:44:00 the SB16 emulation gives problems, ethier change the settings or disable it. its only for sounds in dos which 99.9% of people can live without. this is a prob even in win9x. sorry don't know about win2k. Guest (0)
