2001-11-06 10:53:00 | I have just installed Xp home. Everything works ok, except it refuses to recognize my modem [conexant SoftK56 PCI HSFMODEMWDM]as it is not XP certified. Are there drivers available to solve this, or will I need to repalce it? If so what would you recommend

2001-11-06 20:26:00 | Hi there, I have XP running my win modem which has a conexant chipset with no problems. XP has just loaded up it's own drivers and it's the best it has ever run. It is currently listed as a 'Generic 56k modem' Is it detecting it under plug and play?? You could try removing it from the device manager, then restarting and seeing if it detects it, otherwise go to modems and install a driver from windows for it. Don't try and install any drivers you have for it if they are for windows 98, se or Millenium. XP won't like them. Best of luck

2001-11-07 02:20:00 | I have had a similar problem after replacing my incompatable aztec modem with one that has the conexant chipset. The generic modem driver did not work, and the one shipped with the modem did not work either. I went back to the Green PC Co (claimed their generic 56k modem was working under their XP machines), and they advised me I would need the driver they had used. After installing the driver executable, and forcing XP to use it, my modem works. However, the modems on board speaker is now activated all the time. Most annoying. I have tried a number of programs that will send AT codes to the modem to change the settings, but none seem to work, and in some cases kill the modem completely. I will wait for some of the better quality XP modems to become available and then replace the present one. Hope this helps. | Guest (0) | |

2001-11-11 00:59:00 | I have tried all the above, but no luck, I am unable to find any xp drivers for this modem, rockwell who made the modem have been taken over by conexant, and the conexant dont make the modems themselves only the chipsets so dont have any drivers on there site. The PC company who supplied the modem have been silent despite 3 attempts to get info from them. | Guest (0) | |
2002-01-07 04:47:00 | I have the same modem from The PC Company and i found the same problem but then i relised that XP put it under 'Other Devices' as 'PCI Simple Communacation Device' I downloaded the drivers from there website www.conexant.com and force XP to used them. But now i have the problem of my modem speaker staying on after it connects. | Guest (0) | |
