| 23704 | 2001-11-05 18:48:00 | When I try to run scandisk, I get an error message that says there is not enough memory and scandisk will not proceed. The machines are nearly new running windows 98 with a 800khtz processor with 256 mb ram. The hard drive is almost empty and there is nothing running in the background. When the machine starts up it reports 32mb memory in the POST but somebody suggested this is only the ram on the video card. Is this correct? My machine at home reports my total ram on startup. According to the microsoft knowledge base the drive could have the wrong size clusters for the 20gb drive. How can I find the size of the clusters on this particular machine? |

Click properties on your C: drive it will tell you if you have FAT 16 or 32, 32 being for large drives ie yours. On start up this would be your main memory with shared mem(video if any), are the modules installed correctly? Try reinsalling them in oposite slots but using largest ram card for slot 1. Good luck. |

The video RAM appears on screen at the beginning of the boot process, along with identification information for your video card. The system RAM is the value that is checked during the POST. It sounds like your BIOS settings may be incorrect, but remember to proceed with caution if you plan to make any changes. |
