| 23676 | 2001-11-05 10:29:00 | For some reason my floppy disk drive tells me that each disk i put in has not been correctly formatted even though it has worked on the system before, even when i format the disk following the prompts it gives me it tells me that the disk is not formatted, its capacity is wrong or there is no disk in the drive. these disks work fine on other systems. does anyone know what is going on? thanks |

I used to have this problem regularly with a pc in a really dirty environment at work and cleaning always solved the problem, but the disks were always stuffed. Seemed to scratch the FAT sector and render the disk US. | Guest (0)

If you have dust, it is sometimes necessary to take the floppy drive out, remove the covers, and clean it properly. Compressed air helps, but a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner can be used. Don't bump the heads. | Guest (0)

| 23682 | 2003-09-21 10:36:00 | Its a bit like this: The cooling fans inside the box generally blow air out. When they do that the air that is blown out needs to be replaced so the air coming back into the box brings with it any airborne dust that that is hanging around. And in some cases the path that that air uses is through your floppy or cd drives which in turn become small dust collection points. | gerrypics (323) | ||

| 23685 | 2003-09-21 22:51:00 | Not necessary. Mine sucks air in, and blows it right in front of the CPU cooler (not the best thing considering the Power Supply tends to generate a bit of heat, and gathers dust). | somebody (208) | ||
