23658 2001-11-05 05:19:00 Well, I've had a chance to use this now, and it is really neat.
When ICQ 2001b is installed it makes a Shared Files Directory. There is an option for activating this feature.
A yellow icon appears next to a name in your contact list when the feature is activated. Clicking on this icon opens up your contacts Shared Files Directory, and you can highlight files and click on a download button to download to your computer.
Your contact can do the same and pull files from your Shared Files Directory to theirs.

Security is still something to be considered, and there doesnt seem to be any indication when files are being downloaded from your computer.
Zonealarm didnt interfere in any way, but again this needs to be looked at a bit more.

First tests look good, looking forward to trying it some more.

23659 2001-11-05 07:46:00 There is the option under 'Security and Privacy' (or whatever its called) to allow access to your Shared Files Folder only with your permission. So if someone wants to access your shared files folder they can't until you authorize it. Guest (0)
23660 2001-11-05 08:04:00 Thanks Mike, I found that option, and the others that either allow everyone or no-one access.
The default setting as installed is auto accept only users on the contact list.
Cheers
