| 24083 | 2001-11-09 17:09:00 | Upgrading from Windows Me to XP, I misunderstood the status of XP upgrades for Adaptec/Roxio DirectCD, with the result that DirectCD, which was functioning fine under Me refuses to operate properly under XP. Worse, after I installed the only upgrade I could get off the Roxio website for my current version (3.01 to 3.05), DirectCD launched automatically at bootup and proceeded to fight with the native (and unbelievable clunky) XP routines for control of the CD-write operation. As a result one CD-R has been trashed(Thankfully nothing important that I couldn't recover from the recycle bin - I consider myself still very much in 'test' mode with XP.) So: Question: is there a version of DirectCD for XP (I cannot find one on Roxio's website that will upgrade from the version I have, and (surprise) the local reseller who installed a version two generations old on my PC is of no help either. Roxio seems to be trying to distance itself from the product.) OR: is there an acceptable alternative that will cost as little as possible? A product that will let me use the ordinary drag-and-drop metaphor to transfer files (ordinary files, not music tracks or movie trailers) from my hard drive to a CD-R? Thanks. |
