24016 2001-11-09 04:04:00 Hello, I'm helping a friend who's computer has crashed. The bootlog seems to say there's a problem with the fonts not installing. I would like to format an reinstall Win98. Its a HP Vectra VL and there's no restore disk. The computer doesn,t seem to see the Win98 CD but its ok with other CD's.(in Dos). Windows crashes even in safe mode on startup. Can I format and reinstall Windows without a restore disk? And what about any other drivers. It was bought second hand and came with no CD's or other disks.
thanks

24017 2001-11-09 09:33:00 you can pick up the CD from Visual Electronics in Albany Auckland (09)415 0120, because even though you can use the win 98 CD, unless you own Win 98 etc that is naughty ;-)

24018 2001-11-10 09:15:00 most windows 98 cds are bootable. in your bios there should be a setting to allow boot of the CDROM. if thats not an option then you will need to make a Bootable floppy disk. then once you have booted, if you want a fresh clean install you should reformat the c:\, copy the \win98 folder onto it, then run the setup from the c:\win98. i hope this helps Guest (0)
