24110 2001-11-10 05:11:00 My old 233Pentium with 128k Ram works OK, but keeps locking up - up to three times a day. It happens at no particular time or program, except sometimes when the modem hangs up. In this case, Ctrl, Alt, Delete wont work and I have to reboot. I am running Windows 95, Office Prof 2000, IE5 etc. Been to computer shop twice and they cant fix it - they replaced modem in desparation - didn't help. Can anyone help before I throw the PC in my swimming pool !

24111 2001-11-10 07:40:00 Have you recently added more ram if you have, take the new stuff out for a few days and see how it goes (apart from a bit slower of course)
If the machine doesn't lock up then you know what the problem is.
The trouble with some of the cheap ram at the moment is exactly that. It is cheap!!
May of course not be the problem but it's a start.
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?

24112 2001-11-10 08:25:00 Sounds like way past time for a format, and fresh install.

Could try PC Pitstop, if you're not up to a format and install.

24114 2001-11-11 04:55:00 Windows can crash when its low on memory, like if you have alot of aplications opened it crashes.

How big is your hardrive?

because when your low on memory it grabs space from your hardrive which is called virtual memory, if your low on hardrive space then thats making it even slower.

As i got told by a computer technition always try and have 100meg free on your hardrive.

your regards
