| 24339 | 2001-11-13 03:01:00 | My No 2 computer is a P200MMX with 32MB RAM, 6GB HDD and good networked to No 1 for games and internet and running the CD writer and scanner. (66MHz bus I think) I just bought 128MB PC133 SDRAM to upgrade, replaced the 32MB and fired it up - ran fine and I think faster. Got greedy and added back the 32MB in the next slot and now the system won't boot whatever combination I try. No life from the monitor to get to BIOS or see what's wrong. I've tried different monitor (using Diamond Stealth PCI card), but no good Is it dead for good? What can I do? Where can I go for help? Thanks - Greg |

| 24341 | 2001-11-13 03:32:00 | Calm down chappie you live in NZ not NY city. I have a system kinda da same and am running 160mb RAM 1 PC133 128mb chip and my old PC66 32mb chip and goes like wildfire (well compared to wot is used to be). First thing i can think of is you may have put 1 stick in the dimm slots and 1 stick in the simm slots which is a no no but don't know wot that would cause just my m/board manual says noooooo. The second is did u use Anti static protection eg; a strap or a static pad cos if you didn't and haven't earthed properly it sounds like you may have turned you video card into eggs on toast. That is just wot my thoughts are. So maybe try another video card. | Guest (0) | ||

If the monitor comes up and the BIOS tells you that you have no memory, that is fine. Turn it off. Put back your 32MB ram. Turn it on. If you get told you have 32 MB, fine. Turn it off. Remove the 32MB. Put in the big one. Cross your fingers. Turn it on. If it works, put the lid back on and congratulate yourself on a successful upgrade. If none of that works, you may panic now. |

| 24343 | 2001-11-13 05:35:00 | Thanks for the calming advice guys. Cables are all fine and my mboard only has DIMM slots so no joy there. No I didn't use a strap (never had a prob over years, just holding the chassis). Currently trying to find another PCI display card to try. Any other advice appreciated. greg |
