24250 2001-11-12 04:55:00 Hi all

Does anyone provide a Home Networking service? We have a couple of PC's and I can only tell the difference between them because ones black and the others beige.

I don't have the time or inclination to learn how they work but would like to share an internet connection and beat my wife (on Unreal that is!).

Thanks in advance. Jason

24251 2001-11-12 05:18:00 I've set up a few networks plus sharing. If you're close by I could probably have a look at it. I'm in West Ak. Guest (0)

24253 2001-11-12 06:05:00 you might want to post your location so someone can suggest a local who can help. otherwise find a local computer repairer. Guest (0)
24254 2001-11-12 08:30:00 Assuming you are only wanting to network the two computers, and that they do not currently have cards, for a 10/100Mb network, you would be looking at about $60 for two network cards and probably about $20 for some crossover cabling, the cost of the cable depends entirely on the distance it has to cover.

Installing it is easy enough, but as suggested, you might want to post a location and someone is bound to be able to offer assistance in setting it up for you.

24256 2001-11-12 21:04:00 Thanks for everyone's replies and your very kind offer Ian.

I've discovered a closet computer geek (no offense) at my work who can be bribed with alcohol.

I'm surprised that no one offers this type of service though, surely there must be a demand for it?
