| 24223 | 2001-11-12 02:22:00 | My hp pavilion 8606 comes up with an abnormal error message saying that it cannot detect the hard drive. I initially thort the thing was fried but had that replaced and now have a new hard drive, but still the same msg, Tried using the start up disk (floppy) but now my floppy drive is not working - or its not being detected by the computer. When I try the recovery disks it comes up with an error msg - computer is at home- unable to supply the error msg | Guest (0) | ||

You may find that it is configured to boot from HDD first or CDROM. There should be instructions on the screen to change the settings. The boot floppy should give you enough utility progs to check out the hard disk. FDISK will be able to tell you how the disk is partitioned, and there's usually a help file, e.g. readme.txt which you can read with the edit program (edit readme.txt). | Guest (0) | ||
