24482 2001-11-14 07:55:00 I have Windows 98 and Word 97. My problem is that recently I have had delays opening my saved Word files. I click the file, the egg timer thingie doesn't come up, I wait for a good 20 seconds until finally the word tool bar and margins appear (greyed out) and then about another 20 secs go by before my saved material appears. It's almost like the computer has paused. I have no problems opens other files. I can open Word 97 create a file, and save it no problem. Any ideas, anyone? Guest (0)
24483 2001-11-14 08:20:00 we had a problem opening word 97 files a wile back, but it mite be something different...

we have reinstalled and upgraded to win98se since, but when double-clicking on a word file (when word wasn't already running) which contained spaces in the file name, it wouldn't open, unless the ctrl+o function was used from inside word.

my reccomendation is that you re-install word/office. if that doesn't work (after trying other alternatives) re-installing windows MAY be your best option.

24484 2001-11-14 09:38:00 How much hard drive space is there? You may be running out of space for the Windows swap file. It sounds like you are running short of system resources. What is happening when you are waiting? does the hard drive sound like it is working overtime? That would indicate a possible resource problem. Otherwise a reinstallation might be the solution.
Hope this helps.
Rod.

24485 2001-11-15 08:35:00 I have 4.01 GB of which 2.54 GB us used. While I'm waiting for my Word file to open, nothing appears to be happening - no red light flickering on the tower, and no noise at all. You suggest reinstallation - do you mean uninstall my Word program and reinstall? Guest (0)
