2001-11-16 19:30:00 Hi, I have a system of pIII 616 with 378 ram and 52x cd rom drive, and would like to install a cd-rewriter, i've had my eyes on the Ricoh 20x10x40 mdel MP7200A, now is this any good? I would also like to know if anyone in the Auyckland region sells these cheaper, prefer open weekends (doesn't HAVE to be)with free installation which i believe is free at most places. Does anyone own this or have any tips/suggestions? Is it stable or any other types, approx. the same speed but under $250?

Thanks

2001-11-16 23:02:00 you are kidding arn't you??

you would be lucky to get an elcheapo 16x burner for $250 retail. i see someone advertising that drive for $400. good quality 20x burner range roughly from $300-500.

2001-11-16 23:26:00 Despite Tweak E's scepticism, I recently bought a Samsung 8/12/32 CDR from PB Technologies in Penrose for $208 and it works perfectly. Guest (0)
2001-11-16 23:54:00 exactly, theres a big price dif between a measly 12x and a 20x. pb tech's site must be out of date as it lists the samsung as $235 and has the ricoh 20x as $360. Guest (0)
2001-11-17 06:52:00 Sy Thought I should let you know. I just bought the Ricoh 7200A from I one computers in Browns Bay (yeay Aucklands North Shore!!!) for $259 +GST.

2001-11-17 09:13:00 Can you give me the name of the shop or home business? Thank you Guest (0)
2001-11-20 04:50:00 If you hold out a bit longer you could pick up a better CD RW. I have the MP7200A goes good. But I hear the New Yamaha 20x 10x 40x has 8MB of onboard Cache which is 4 times more than the Ricoh and should be able to lower the amount of buffer underruns even though I don't have trouble with underruns. Just reaching Max 20x for writing CDs to CDs without it failing Guest (0)
2001-11-20 08:59:00 The Ricoh MP7200A has JustLink buffer underrun protection, so if you're using software that supports JustLink (ie Nero) you shouldn't have problems with underruns any way.
