24602 2001-11-15 20:24:00 David,

They all work. Just make sure you download the latest drivers and maybe even back up your registry before you install.

I had an utter nightmare recently when I installed a D-Link one - not entirely the fault of the unit (turned out PC had 209 files infected with a virus, which didn't help).

Anyway, I use an external Nokia M1122 and I love it.

Regards,
Robo.

Both are routers but my vote goes to the Nokia Ni500 for ease of installation and reliability in use, but this topic has been well thrashed on F1 in recent months so I suggest you carry out a searches of Press F1 for Ni500 and the model number of the Dynalink (or even just 'adsl modem' and read the threads. There were some interesting comments from a telecom techie a few weeks ago too.

24604 2001-11-16 03:49:00 Hi David, they are both OK,as long as you are not to far from the telephone exchange. The Ni500 did have a few problems a while age with overheating, but they have been sorted out now(supposedly),but they don't like being to far away from the exchange(anything over 2.5-3Km),they tend to drop off quite a bit the further away you get.The Dynalink I'm not to sure about, but you should be able to return it if it doesn't work.If you can stretch to it, go for the Nokia M1122,expensive but good, and a built in hub. 24605 2001-11-16 07:13:00 How can u find out how far away u are from the telecom exchange.I cheked the line i got 3.7 Mbits per second for
lower probable limit and 7.2 Mbits per second for upper probable limit.Does this tell u how far u are from the exchange.

24606 2001-11-21 22:44:00 I bought a Nokia Ni500 about three months ago and it has been nothing but trouble. Nokia now acknowledge that this unit has an overheating fault which causes it to disconnect and then reconnect to your ISP. This is a pain when downloading large files or doig web searches as it means re-starting. At the moment my unit is doing it between 15min and 1 hour.
The other problem with the Ni500 is that it will not cope with all the IRC (Chat) functions. You cannot set up port pinholes which will allow you to set up private chat or to send files via DCC. You can still receive files and also chat in the channel.
Nokia have been promising a solution to the overhaeting problem for 2 months but have no definite date for fixing it.

Recomend you look at the Dynalink model it has more features for the price.
