24704 2001-11-16 22:34:00 Hi, Ive just got a new sony 16X 10X 40X CDRW and found that it quit burning about 1/4 of the way thru the process.
I am using an 80 wire IDE cable instead of the old 40 wire type and wonder if this may be the problem.

Software is nero 5.5, machine is AMD T -Bird 1.4GHZ, 760 ram, ASUS A7V133 M/B. 20gb HDD. Burner installed as secondary master (non Raid port)

Everything else seems fine so I thought it might be the ide cable type.
Any comments would be appreciated

Thanks

24705 2001-11-16 23:08:00 the cable will be fine. what are you doing, coping a disk or copying from hardrive. also what OS, at a guess it would be a windows prob or something that you have running in the background.

also what speed cdr's are you using?

24706 2001-11-17 01:21:00 Thanks for confirming the cable is ok. Much Appreciated.

I run win 98SE was just trying to do a basic backup from HDD of downloaded media player applications that I have been investigating.

I never run anything in the background when doing CDR.

First I used a Kodak gold 1 - 12x CDR then a LG 2x - 3x compatible CDRW. same thing happened.

I specicified 8x burn speed to be safe.

Then 2x on the CDRW.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

cheers

24708 2001-11-17 21:17:00 Hello,

You may be expereincing under run problems. I run 98se and had the same problems trying to burn cds. Apprently, 98se continues to use cache files, before using available RAM, and can cause a pause in the continual flow of data to your CD writer.I got around it by using mem-turbo to increase the cache files for the writer. Ramidle will do the same. and Continuing to turn off everything as well.
good luck.
